Cupcakes for Kylie

I was recently approached by Amie, a fellow shop owner on Etsy about taking part in an auction for a little girl named Kylie from San Diego, who is battling cancer. Little Kylie was diagnosed with stage 4 high risk neuroblastoma. You can find out more about Kylie's story here on the family facebook page: www.facebook.com/prayersforkylie1 as well as follow their journey on Instagram @prayersforkylie

I absolutely love children, they're the inspiration for my line. Hearing about Kylie's story broke my heart. Without hesitation, I agreed to help. I'm happy to announce that StarrJoy16 will be donating a necklace and ring from part of my dream catcher collection as part of the Auction to raise funds for Kylie's family.

The Auction will be held in June 2014 (specific date is not set yet). It is to be held live on Instagram. Follow @cupcakesforkylie to participate in the auction as well as to receive the latest information on Kylie's status. Along with my jewelry from StarrJoy16, other handmade items, services, and gift cards will be auctioned off.

I hope you will join us in dreaming big for Kylie and supporting her in her brave battle. Together we can make a difference for this family. If you would like to get involved with donations, please contact
Amie Salter at cupcakesforkylie@gmail.com

Stay tuned for an update of the live auction date.

To Tinder or not to Tinder?

A few weeks ago, I was out to dinner with a group of 5 platonic friends. 3 guys and 3 girls. Naturally the topic of dating came up. I was shocked to find out that 3 of the people at our table were Tinder users. What is Tinder? You might ask. It is defined as a phone app that shows a picture of a person and you can swipe left and "nope" them or swipe right and "like" them. It's based off of physical attraction and geographic location alone and totally shallow. Once "liking" a person, you can begin messaging them if and only if the said person "likes" you back.
With limited resources for dating these days, I found myself asking 'Is this what it's come to?' I questioned the Tinder regulars at the table and heard both positive and negative feedback. I've heard stories from other people about how they met their boyfriend, husband, dog sitter, etc.. on Tinder. I figured what do I have to lose? Curiosity got the best of me and I ended up downloading and signing up for the app that night.
I was pleasantly surprised to have well over 80 "matches" within the first few days. It was a definite ego boost. My superficial high was short-lived when I soon realized that most of my Tinder "matches" were not however matches. Based on only looks alone, there's no way to filter the intentions of other Tinder users. I've found certain users range from wanting to show me their penis, to wanting to marry me and knock me up within 30 minutes of messaging.
Weeding out the duds takes time and effort. Online "dating" could be like a part time job if you let it... but I was willing to give it a go... At this point I figure it can't get much worse. My friends have always gotten a kick out of my dating life and have repeatedly told me that I should start blogging about it. Dating to me is so personal and I have chosen in the past to not put it out there...but there are just too many idiots to not share the stories. Without further ado, it is my pleasure to bring to you a new series, ' The Tinder Diaries '. Consider me like the Taylor Swift of Tinder and get ready, because I'm putting it all out there, which I realize some people may not appreciate, but to those people I say 'Whatever'. I hope you enjoy. Stay tuned......

What the What? - Thanks a lot Pinterest

With temperatures soaring well into the 90's in Southern California in recent days, It's time to bust out the sandals. With sandals comes the necessity of pedicured toes. I consider myself to be a pretty crafty gal. I'm a painter for Heaven's sake. My creativity along with the positive feedback from one of my first blog posts, D.I.Y. Leopard print pedicure inspired me to get all artsy on my toes. And well, things didn't exactly go as planned. My apologies in advance for what you are about to see.

I looked up ideas on pinterest and found a photo of hot pink toes with splashes of white and silver glitter. If you've seen my line, StarrJoy16, then you should be well aware that I enjoy me some splatter paint along with some glitter!

I started with OPI's 'THATS BERRY DARING' and let fully dry:

Next I dipped a toothpick in BRUCCI's 'HEAVANLY WHITE' and NYC's Fast Dry Silver and splashed along each side of each toenail (applying from outward to inward). Topped some wet n wild - wild shine glitter over the silver and voila:

And in case you need it, Here's a close-up of the chaos:

No, there's nothing wrong with your screen, that's as good as it gets, folks! I'm still not sure what exactly I think of this look so I'm just gonna say What the What?! Thanks a lot Pinterest! (take that with a dash of sarcasm if you wish).

So if you're feeling 'Daring' and 'Wild' (get it?! a pun based on the polish colors), pick up these ditties and get your glitter on!

Are you ready for pedicure season?! I'd love to hear your comments on Pinterest experiences gone not as exactly as planned. Feel free to share below.

XOXO

Dear Blacklist, I can't quit you

The Blacklist to me is what Heath Ledger is to Jake Gyllenhaal, I can't quit it! I'm so obsessed with the show and the characters. We all remember James Spader as the villain in 80's movies that likes to lean up against walls while propping one leg up... Well he hasn't changed much, except now he's traded his signature lean for fancy suits and fedoras. He's still got that smirk though. I can't help but love him as 'Raymond 'Red' Reddington'.

Then there's Tom Keen. Married to newbie FBI Agent Keen. Is he good or is he bad? The mystery has even prompted hashtags #whoisTomKeen . Let me just say that I've never known someone to 'do his job' so well. I'm not so sure which side Tom is on but I do know for sure that the man can rock a pair of glasses like no other. Yummy.

I'm even developing a fondness for FBI Special Agent 'Donald Ressler' played by Diego Klattenhoff. I don't normally develop affection for Gingers but with a name like that, who wouldn't? I want him to be Agent Keen's hero baby a la Enrique Iglesias.

It's safe to say That I am equally in love with all of the main male characters on the show. Let's not forget the lucky doe eyed Bambi in the center of it all. The innocent Agent Elizabeth Keen. I forgive her for her terrible hair extensions because the girl has got the best skin ever. Like porcelain! Outstanding considering all of the stress her character has been put through. You glow girl!

Can I just say that it seems like just about every episode has that OMG factor?! The season finale didn't disappoint. I don't want to give anything away for those not yet caught up but let me just say: Throat slit, Strangulation, Shooting in the stomach; He's so not dead, The Stewmaker photo tie in, and Fire scars. Catch my drift? For those of you who are not picking up on what I'm putting down, you NEED to start watching this show. You have plenty of time to do so. The second season isn't scheduled to start until mid November (tear). It might trigger some heart pumping anxiety but I promise you it's for your own good. I even convinced my best friend, Sara to start watching it (on her honeymoon none the less). You're welcome John!

Fellow Blacklisters, what are your thoughts on the season finale? Feel free to comment below!

Wishing a very happy mother's day to all of the rockin mamas out there! Here's a flashback photo of my mom and I. I couldn't be happier to be the apple from her tree. She's the strongest woman I know!

I was a little under the weather, so we celebrated very low key, with flowers, wine (of course), gifts and tacos. What mama wants, mama gets!

What the What? - Is Bruce Jenner becoming a woman?

Since growing his hair longer and having surgery in February, there's been a lot of speculation about Bruce Jenner. The surgery was to shave down his Adam's apple, which is known as chondrolaryngoplasty, and also said to be the first step in gender reassignment surgery. Time will tell if Bruce "just didn't like his trachea" or if the dude longs to look like a lady. Either way I think he should just let his freak flag fly. If he DOES decide to become a woman, I vote his name be changed to 'Brucinda Jenna' (and he should also speak with a Boston accent)- Because why not?!

Wishing you nothing but love and happiness Bruce(inda)

The Broccoli Festival

Over the weekend, a few of my friends and I decided to attend the Broccoli Festival downtown. The festival was to promote healthy living along with some art and good old music. I'm a fan of leafy greens with a side of beer, so I was in. I was ready to get my Salad on!

We decided to be proactive in going green and took the metro downtown. It was my first time! I was a little disappointed that it was nothing like what you see on an episode of "Law and Order" but I did feel like a City girl.

Once arriving in Downtown Los Angeles, we did what any normal group of people would do before heading to a health fest, we hit up a hotdog stand! Mmm Bacon!

With our stomachs full, we were ready to head to the main event. Bring on the Broccoli! Unfortunately we were the only ones on board. Upon arrival, the people were sparse, tents were still being set up nearly an hour after the start time, and the food trucks were out of order. Thanks for not judging me on my earlier decision to inhale a hotdog. Just when it seemed like the destiny of the day was wilting like a piece of lettuce, Amanda and I found a really large chair. High fives for high chairs!

The novelty of the chair did start to wear off. After being in 90 degree heat without any alcohol and watching my friend bruise herself on a stripper pole, I was ready for a detour. Justin and I headed to L.A. Live while Amanda braved an art project. She later lost these records after carting them around the entire day. Let's all just take a moment to appreciate this candid.

Shortly thereafter, the gang was reunited and it felt so good! It was our waiter's birthday, so of course we serenaded him with a lively rendition of "Happy Birthday" and celebrated by playing "Truth, Drink, or Dare". He giddily told us we were the only one's who sang to him (shocker). I'm pretty sure it was the best day of his life.

Next we headed over to Casey's Irish Pub where yes, I continued to drink Margaritas! When in Rome, right?! We put our game faces on and started playing Darts and Ping Pong. We met a crew who looked like they were going to break into "Hey Brother" by Avicii  at any given moment. Either that or they were the missing members of O Brother, Where Art Thou? I can't decide.

After many a rounds of both drinks and games, we crowned ourselves the ultimate ping pong champions and were ready to head on home. Back to the Metro, where we found ourselves starting a new trend: Metro Yoga, which I believe was the healthiest part of the entire broccoli festival. Success!
